endothermic/ exothermic reactions
At the spring meeting we had decided that it was probably time to move on and try something new. However, we spent the first three hours reflecting on the work we brought from this past year. This was Holly’s first time teaching the lesson. We both felt that the stations worked quite well. Our students tended to get tripped up by the same things. In particular because we allowed students to have acetone evaporate off their skin, they became confused about whether their hand or the liquid was the system. Clearly understanding the concept of chemical energy on the energy graphs was very difficult for students. It is just hard to grasp that energy can be going into a system and yet the temperature will go down. However, generally we both feel good about leaving things at this point. We both plan to continue working on this lesson independently and are excited to try something new.
