05 spring - zach and heather
friction

By the spring of 2005 we discarded our previous work with defining systems and began a new lesson on friction. We decided to frame the lesson using the essential question "When can we ignore friction?" We were extremely proud of our opening hook where students would throw wads of paper at the teacher. We would then begin by discussing why students would choose to crumple the paper into wads instead of leaving them as flat sheets. Following this discussion, students would work through a series of activity stations and a lab. We did not put much thought into assessments and how we could examine student understandings. We were really doing lesson planning more than lesson study.
